The euro has been the modern currency of Slovakia since January 1, 2009, replacing the Slovak crown. Coins are minted at the Slovak Mint in Kremnica. The national side of euro coins has three different designs. Coins of small denominations of 1, 2 and 5 Euro cents depict Mount Krivan. On 10, 20 and 50 cent coins - the castle of Bratislava Castle. As for the denominations of 1 and 2 euro, the obverse of these coins depicts the Byzantine cross on three elevations that symbolize the mountains of the Tatra, Fatra and Matra.

In addition to coins of regular minting, Slovakia issues commemorative and anniversary coins with a face value of 2 euro. At the beginning of 2020, 12 such coins were issued.

In addition, the country mints euro collectible coins. More than 50 collectible gold and silver coins in denominations of 10, 20, 25 and 100 euro have already been issued.
