Coin "International Year of Astronomy" 2 euro Vatican

    The Vatican commemorative coin "International Year of Astronomy" with a face value of 2 euro was issued in 2009 with a circulation of 106,084 coins.

   The obverse of the commemorative coin depicts a fragment of Michelangelo's painting "The Creation of the Sun and the Moon" as well as astronomical instruments. Two inscriptions are placed around the circumference of the coin: "ANNO INTERNAZIONALE DELL'ASTRONOMIA" (International Year of Astronomy) and "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO" (Vatican City State). The year of issue of the coin is also indicated.
